FESTIVALS 5719 (1958-1959)
The Bible describes the Land of Israel through seven kinds of produce, known as the "seven species," representative of the country, namely, wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, honey, and dates. These items constituted the theme for the Festival stamps in 1958 and 1959. The first series featured wheat, barley, grapes, and figs, and the second the remaining three items, the pomegranate, olives, and dates.
The Hebrew biblical verse "A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey" (Deut. 8:8) is the inscription on the tabs, with the word for the item on the stamp appearing in the same color as the stamp.
