Town emblems 2

HADERAH

Founded in 1891, Haderah has developed from a swampy stretch of land into a modern industrialized town in the southern Sharon region of Israel. The town’s emblem features a eucalyptus tree, which was used to help drain the swamps of the settlement, outstanding buildings in the town, and symbols of agriculture and shipping. HERZLIYYAH

This town was established in 1924 by second-generation members of surrounding settlements. It has developed into a popular resort town, due to its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea.

HOLON

Just south of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Holon’s first neighborhood was founded in 1936. This became one of a cluster of neighborhoods along the Mediterranean shore, all included in the municipality of Holon.

BAT YAM

Originally called Bayit va-Gan, Bat Yam is located south of Yafo. It was founded in 1926 and became well known for its beach on the Mediterranean coast.

RAMLEH

Until 1948 Ramleh was populated by Arabs and Christians. After 1948 Jews, mainly immigrants, began to settle in the town alongside the existing inhabitants. Ramleh is located next to Lod (Lydda) on the coastal plain of Israel.

KEFAR SAVA

Settlement in Kefar Sava began in 1903, and in the 1920s its development made headway, bringing it into citrus agriculture and industry. Kefar Sava became a well developed town with its own hospital.

GIVATAYIM

In 1942 five suburbs east of Tel Aviv were combined into the township of Givatayim. It has become a desirable location for commuters to Tel Aviv and its environs.

REHOVOT

Founded in 1890 in the south of Israel’s central region, Rehovot quickly became a center of agriculture. It also focused on education in this field, becoming home to the Weizmann Research Institute and its faculty for Agriculture. The emblem of Rehovot emphasises this combination, depicting symbols of education, research, and agriculture. See also Rehovot Centenary.

NETANYAH

Netanyah was founded in 1929 as an agricultural settlement in the Sharon Plain, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. BENE-BERAK

North-east of Tel Aviv, Bene-Berak was founded in 1924 by religious immigrants from Poland. The religious character that they introduced has been maintained in most neighborhoods of Bene-Berak and the town is home to many yeshivot (religious seminaries).

NAHARIYYAH

This town was established in 1934 in western Galilee by German immigrants. Nahariyyah was begun as a farming settlement and, being located on the Mediterranean coast, became a holiday resort town.

RAMAT GAN

In 1921 the town of Ramat Gan was founded near Tel Aviv. It has since developed into one of Israel’s leading centers for business and industry. It also includes the expansive National Park and other areas of recreation.
